Military pilots from the Finnish Air Force are conducting water rescue training following ejection seat jumps at Nuasjärvi Lake in Kajaani. The exercise began today and will continue until next Wednesday. Water rescue after an ejection is a fundamental skill for all military pilots, and it is practiced regularly within the Air Force. Training sessions at Nuasjärvi have been held since 2014.
During the training, participants jump into the water while wearing flight gear and with minimal rescue equipment. Pilots must remain functional until rescue personnel can locate and retrieve them. The ejection seat jump is simulated by towing a parachute from pontoons using rescue boats, with a lifeguard always present during these exercises.
The designated area for the training operations is Rehjan Island. The public is advised to avoid boating near the island during the exercise to ensure safety and minimize disturbances.
