Northern Jutland attractions report exceptionally strong summer

Many attractions and restaurants in Northern Jutland have reported an exceptionally strong summer, DR reports. High sunshine levels have coincided with large numbers of tourists across the region.

Thomas Othegraven, who runs three restaurants in Blokhus, said the season had exceeded all expectations and was the strongest in his 19 years there.

“The summer has been absolutely fantastic,” he said.

Tourists have also been drawn to boat trips on Mariager Fjord and rides on a vintage train. FjordTours, which among other things operates the Svanen tourist boat, has had many guests on board every day, according to marketing manager Mariam Mikha.

She said the summer had been better than usual.

The heat has also presented challenges for the Aalborg Tower, an iconic tower where open sandwiches are served 105 metres above the nearby Limfjord. On the hottest days, fewer people wanted to make the trip to the top, but operator Michel Lycoops said visitor numbers had still been far higher than expected.

“There have been an enormous number of visitors,” he said.

In Blokhus, the sun and warm weather have sent tourists towards the beach and away from the restaurants and shops during the day. Othegraven said many returned to the town in the evening, when his restaurants became completely full.

Both June and July brought heatwaves. Northern Jutland recorded its highest temperature of the summer in Aars on Thursday, when temperatures reached 34.4 degrees Celsius.
