Annual maintenance at the Loviisa nuclear power plant began on Sunday, according to Yle. Fortum said the work would start at Unit 2 before moving to Unit 1.
Unit 2 will undergo an extensive maintenance shutdown carried out every eight years, while Unit 1 is scheduled for a shorter annual maintenance period.
Fortum said one reactor unit would normally remain in electricity production while the other is being serviced. The maintenance work is expected to be completed after mid-October.
About 1,000 employees of contracting companies will join the plant’s permanent staff for the maintenance work.
