Arendal, hit-and-run, spain

Nikoline Piwoni Høie, 17, was killed in a hit-and-run on a motorway in Marbella, Spain, after attending a World Cup match. Her funeral takes place today at Trefoldighetskirken in Arendal.

Høie had been on holiday with her mother and was looking forward to returning home to celebrate her birthday with friends, according to a family statement released to Norwegian media. She was last seen at the Funky Buddha nightclub in Puerto Banús after Norway’s victory over Brazil in the Women’s World Cup on 5 July. She was reported missing after separating from a friend and was found dead on the A-7 motorway between Fuengirola and Marbella early on 6 July.

A man was initially detained by Spanish police in connection with the incident but was later released after surveillance footage showed he was not involved.

In their statement, the family described Høie as being in a happy place in her life, with plans to work, spend time with friends, and attend a summer camp with the youth wing of Norway’s Conservative Party. They called her death “infinitely unfair.”

Høie was identified on 8 July after consultation with her family. A family representative, Finn Greve-Isdahl, previously told Dagbladet that relatives were struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
