Parts of Denmark experienced heavy rainfall today, leading to significant downpours in various areas. Some regions recorded intense cloudbursts, where more than 15 mm of rain fell within just 30 minutes. The most severe cloudburst was reported in Kolding, with 32.6 mm of rain.

The torrential rain caused flooding on roads and lifted manhole covers, trapping drivers in waterlogged areas of Copenhagen. Images shared by users depict the flooding near Bispeengbuen in the city.

However, the heavy rainfall was not limited to Copenhagen; it swept across multiple parts of the country. A precipitation map shows that the darker blue areas indicate more significant rainfall. On average, Denmark typically receives 82 mm of rain in August, meaning many regions experienced what is equivalent to half a month’s rainfall in just one day.

The heavy downpour also affected Bispebjerg Cemetery, where water flowed in torrents. While the scenes appeared dramatic, meteorologist Louise Gade Sig noted that such summer storms are normal in Denmark.

More than 70% of all cloudbursts occur during the summer months of June, July, and August. She added that, with the worst now over, most people can look forward to a summer evening with dry weather and a bit of sunshine.
