AGF advances in Champions League after dramatic penalty shootout

AGF fans returned to Denmark on Thursday morning after witnessing their team secure a historic Champions League qualifying victory in Poznań, Poland, following a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

The match, already dubbed the “Miracle in Poznań” by supporters, saw AGF overturn a home-leg defeat with a 4-3 penalty shootout win after extra time, sending them through to the next round.

Mikkel Koch-Larsen, who organised one of the fan buses from Skanderborg, Tilst, and Randers, described the scenes as unforgettable. “It’s a moment in history we’ll never forget,” he said. The 77 fans on his bus were among those who made the long trip to Poland, expecting little more than the experience of a major European stadium.

“People came here to see AGF play on this huge stage, thinking we’d probably be out of the Champions League qualifiers. But once they took the lead, belief started to grow, and the atmosphere just exploded,” Koch-Larsen said.

For a club long mocked for its European ambitions, the result was a landmark. “AGF has been teased for never making it to the Champions League. To go out and deliver such a big result against a strong opponent is incredible,” he added.

Now, the mood among supporters has shifted. “I think we can start dreaming big in AGF,” Koch-Larsen said. On social media, fans are already discussing chartering a joint flight to Baku, Azerbaijan, for the next qualifying round.
