Regular train service resumes between Odense and Fredericia

Regional trains will return to the Odense–Fredericia route from 04:00 on Friday, the Danish Road Directorate confirmed, ending a week of disruption caused by delayed track work on the Vestfyn line.

Since 9 June, replacement bus services had been in place, with passengers facing significant delays. The situation worsened when a power supply failure briefly halted InterCityLyn and EuroCity services, leaving national operator DSB struggling to provide enough buses and leading to reports of chaos and long queues at stations. DSB had urged travellers to postpone non-essential journeys on the route.

The track work, originally due to finish on 27 July, was extended by four days. Similar delays affected another project between Ringsted and Slagelse on Zealand, where bus replacements ran for eight days after a one-day overrun.

Transport Minister Signe Munk (SF) requested an explanation, stating that while some issues were unforeseeable, the shortage of replacement buses was unacceptable. Until early Friday, buses will continue to serve the Odense–Fredericia route.
