The Faroese government has announced plans to introduce a tax deduction for union membership fees, a long-standing demand from trade unions, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.

The proposal would allow union members to deduct up to 4,000 krona annually for membership fees, with implementation expected to begin gradually from 2027.

However, the report notes that the government’s announcement makes no mention of another key union demand: a shorter workweek. The issue was not referenced in the government’s statement or accompanying documents.
