Taxi driver charged with sexual assault after nighttime ride

A taxi driver in his 50s has been charged with sexual assault after allegedly abusing his position to obtain sexual contact with a woman in her 20s during a ride in Oslo, Dagbladet reports.

The incident is said to have occurred around 03:30 on May 25, 2024, while the driver was taking the woman home. According to the charge, the assault took place at at least two separate locations in the capital.

The woman reported the incident herself and has since been deeply affected, her legal representative Hege Salomon told the newspaper. Salomon said the experience had disrupted the woman’s studies and caused recurring nightmares.

Prosecutors filed the charge in mid-June, more than two years after the alleged offence. Salomon called the delay “highly unfortunate” and said it had added to the woman’s distress.

The driver denies the charges. Prosecutors have indicated they may seek to revoke his professional transport licence. The trial is scheduled for two days in Oslo District Court in November.
