The Faroese government plans to introduce a tax deduction for union membership fees, a long-standing demand from labour organisations, according to a report by Kringvarp Føroya.
Under the proposal, union members will be eligible for an annual deduction of up to 4,000 kroner for membership fees, with implementation set to begin gradually in 2027.
The announcement, however, makes no mention of another key union demand: a shorter workweek. The issue was not addressed in the government’s statement or supporting documents.
