Smukfest launches app feature to pair solo festivalgoers

Smukfest is introducing a new app feature to help solo attendees find concert companions, the Danish broadcaster DR reports.

The “Find a concert buddy” function will allow festivalgoers to connect with others heading to the same performances, addressing a growing trend of people attending alone.

A recent Smukfest survey of 10,000 respondents found that 4.5% of its 60,000 guests attend solo—about 2,700 people. Nearly 90% of these solo attendees do so by choice, with 28% citing a lack of interest among their friends or family as the reason.

“As a festival, we should also host a community where you don’t need to bring friends—you can come alone and see who you meet along the way,” said Smukfest content director Trine Bang.

The feature builds on last year’s introduction of Modigheden, a dedicated camping area for solo guests, which returns this year with expanded communal spaces and activities.

Smukfest begins Sunday in Skanderborg’s Bøgeskoven.
