Search underway for missing 21-year-old Helgi Ingimar Þórðarson in Westman Islands, Iceland

A search is underway for a young man in the Westman Islands, Iceland. The coast guard has deployed the rescue vessel Þór to assist in the operation, and the police chief anticipates that a rescue helicopter will also be called out soon.

Authorities are looking for 21-year-old Helgi Ingimar Þórðarson, a festival attendee who is 192 cm tall. He was last seen wearing black pants, a black hoodie, and a dark green jacket. Karl Gauti Hjaltason, the police chief in the Westman Islands, reported that the search had not yet yielded results. Rescue teams have been searching the area, and by noon, the rescue boat Þór was summoned to help in the efforts.

The police began the search after Helgi’s relatives, who had been in contact with him, expressed concerns for his safety. The search started in Herjólfsdal and along the coastline near Hamarinn. Drones have been used in the search despite challenging conditions, although visibility remains decent despite strong winds and rain.
