Record-high grade averages for Danish university admissions

Just after midnight on Tuesday, thousands of applicants in Denmark learned whether they had secured a place on their dream degree programme. Nearly 60,000 were admitted to higher education this year, with 79 percent receiving their first-choice offer.

Design at Design School Kolding tops the list of programmes requiring the highest grade point averages for admission under the primary quota, sharing first place with Computer Science at Aarhus University. This year’s average for Design dropped slightly from last year’s 11.5. The school admitted 80 applicants for the upcoming term.

Computer Science at Aarhus University, in its second year of operation, has quickly gained popularity, with only 27 of 766 applicants accepted. Data Science at the same university, the English-taught version of the Datavidenskab bachelor’s programme, also ranks among the most competitive.

Midwifery at Copenhagen School of Social Work and Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Copenhagen remain perennial high-demand programmes. The former requires a 10.9 average for winter intake, with a standby threshold of 10.7. The latter admitted 77 of 514 applicants, with eight on standby.

International Business at Copenhagen Business School, Psychology at the University of Copenhagen, and Psychology at Aarhus University—where 208 of 2,421 applicants were admitted—round out the list of programmes with the highest entry requirements.

Meanwhile, the most popular programmes by volume are Pedagogy, Nursing, Civil Engineering, Diploma Engineering, and Business Economics. Nationwide, 16,023 university places remain unfilled, according to the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education.
