Midnight sun ends today in Utsjoki

The midnight sun period in Utsjoki ends today as the sun sets below the horizon for the first time in over two months, reports Yle. The sun has been continuously visible in the northernmost Finnish municipality since mid-May.

Nights will now gradually grow darker, though the north will remain bright at night for some time still.

During July, the sun has moved from the constellation Gemini to Cancer, according to the astronomical association Ursa. Earth was at its farthest point from the sun on Monday, July 6, at a distance of approximately 152.1 million kilometers.
