Man arrested after stabbing at Helsinki day centre
Finland A man in his 40s has been detained and later released in connection with the stabbing of a man in his 30s at the Aurora day centre in Helsinki, Yle reports.
The incident, which occurred last Thursday, followed a verbal altercation between the two men, who were known to each other. According to Detective Inspector Jari Korkalainen of the Helsinki Police, one man suddenly became agitated and slashed the other with a knife, striking him in the neck.
The victim sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment but is not currently in life-threatening condition. Police have not yet been able to interview him.
The suspect has admitted to the act in a moment of anger but denies attempted murder, claiming he intended only to cause minor harm. Police state there were multiple witnesses, providing a clear account of events.
The Aurora day centre provides social and health services for HIV-positive injecting drug users.
Authorities are awaiting medical reports before the case is transferred to the prosecutor within approximately one month. The suspect remains under investigation for attempted murder and possession of an object capable of causing serious injury.
