Heatwave over in Norway

The heatwave in Norway is over, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute confirmed to Dagbladet on Saturday. Statsmeteorologist Håkon Mjelstad stated that no part of the country is expected to exceed 20°C on Saturday, with Trøndelag currently the warmest region.

Duty meteorologist Pernille Borander clarified that the heatwave had already ended the previous week, noting that the current conditions reflect typical Norwegian summer weather, with no forecasts indicating temperatures of 30°C or higher.

Vestlandet is expected to fare the worst on Saturday, with Mjelstad describing conditions as “autumn-like.” Troms and Finnmark will see the most sunshine, while rain is forecasted for Vestlandet, Trøndelag, and Nord-Norge in the coming week. However, Mjelstad emphasized that rainfall will likely be light, with no weather warnings issued.

Sørlandet, Østlandet, and Øst-Finnmark are expected to have the driest conditions, with the highest chance of temperatures exceeding 20°C due to sunshine rather than warm air. Borander added that parts of Østlandet, particularly eastern Agder and central regions, could see temperatures approaching 25°C from Tuesday onward, with Oslo among the warmest areas.

Despite some expected afternoon showers, Borander advised that the week ahead looks largely sunny and dry for Sørlandet and Østlandet, encouraging people to take advantage of the weather. She also noted that the light rain forecasted for Sør- and Østlandet will not significantly reduce the ongoing wildfire risk.
