Yle seeks fathers on summer parental leave for feature

Finnish public broadcaster Yle is inviting fathers currently taking parental leave during the summer to share their experiences for an upcoming article.

The share of parental leave days taken by fathers has risen in recent years, reaching nearly 23 percent of all days compensated by the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) last year. Four years earlier, fathers accounted for just over 11 percent. The increase has been driven by reforms to family leave policies.

Fathers taking parental leave this summer are asked to explain why their leave falls partially or entirely during the summer months and to describe their experiences. Responses can be submitted via an online form or sent directly to reporter Elisa Kallunki at [email protected]. All submissions will be handled confidentially, and providing a response does not commit participants to an interview. Yle will not use any material without first contacting the contributor.
