Man dies after Rauma shipyard accident, police investigate gross negligence

A man injured in a workplace accident at the Rauma shipyard on Wednesday has died from his injuries, Southwestern Finland Police confirmed to Yle.

The man was crushed under a forklift on the shipyard premises and later died in hospital. According to Yle Åboland, he worked for a subcontractor at Rauma Marine Constructions.

Police are investigating the incident as a workplace accident and are examining the cause of death. The case is being treated as suspected gross negligent homicide, with the forklift operator under suspicion.

Both the victim and the suspect are men, said Kimmo Hiltula, the lead investigator and detective chief inspector, in a police statement. As the pre-trial investigation progresses, the charges may be adjusted or expanded.
