Ammerud murder suspect’s fiancée yet to be identified

Oslo police are still working to identify the fiancée of a man in his late 20s charged with the April murder of a man in his 40s in the Ammerud district, Dagbladet reports.

The suspect, who denies guilt, was remanded in custody for another four weeks on Monday. Oslo District Court ruled that despite three months passing since the killing, the investigation remains in its early stages.

Police believe the fiancée, currently abroad, is a key witness, as the suspect was in contact with her shortly before the incident. The suspect has refused to provide information to help police locate her, and investigators are now attempting to identify her independently.

Defence lawyer Cecilie Nakstad criticised the pace of the investigation, telling Dagbladet that police have had the necessary information to pursue leads abroad for weeks. She argued that the suspect’s right to remain silent should not be used to justify delays.

The court noted that the suspect’s claim of self-defence does not weaken the case against him. Further witness interviews, forensic examinations, and digital evidence analysis are still pending.

Police are also examining an anonymous post on the social platform Jodel, in which a user claimed to have been at the home of their former teacher in Ammerud, leveling accusations. Authorities have not confirmed whether the post is linked to the case.

The suspect has prior convictions, including a 30-day prison sentence in 2022 for threats and vandalism after damaging a pizzeria with a knife and threatening an employee. He is also due in court in August on charges including threats against police and reckless behaviour towards MDG politician Frøya Skjold Sjursæther.
