Police investigate homicide in Oulu after shots fired in Kaukovainio

A 50-year-old man was found dead on Wednesday afternoon in a row house on Kultatie in Oulu’s Kaukovainio district, police said. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area and launched a homicide investigation under the charge of manslaughter.

A younger man has been taken into custody as the sole suspect in the case. Police said no other suspects are being sought. Communication chief Tero Väyrynen of Oulu police said investigators believe a firearm may have been used and that shots were heard in the courtyard the previous evening.

The victim was discovered inside the residence on Kultatie, a densely populated neighborhood with multiple potential witnesses. Police received the first report of the incident shortly after 3 p.m. and conducted a visible operation at the scene involving multiple patrols.

Investigators expect to release further details later on Thursday, Väyrynen said.
