Populær strand hit by illegal racing

Blokhus beach is experiencing repeated incidents of illegal racing by cars and ATVs, according to local beach warden Thomas Duurloo. The activity leaves visible tire tracks in the sand and poses a safety risk to the large number of visitors during the summer season.

Duurloo, who patrols the beach daily, reports that the reckless driving is a near-daily occurrence. “As soon as you drive onto the beach, you can see clear tracks where people have been racing wildly,” he said. “With so many people here in these months, it becomes dangerous.”

Under Danish traffic laws, the beach is considered a public road, and police enforce these rules along the coastline. Nordjyllands Politi receives frequent reports of illegal racing, particularly during the summer months, said police superintendent Lars Jensen. The problem is not limited to Blokhus but affects multiple beaches along the west coast.

Police attempt to address the issue through dialogue with offenders, Jensen added. “We try to talk to them and explain that traffic laws apply on the beach as well. Depending on the situation, fines may also be issued.”
