Pest control firm removes 368 oak processionary moth nests on Amager

Pest control workers have removed 368 oak processionary moth nests from trees on Amager Fælled in Copenhagen, Denmark, the firm Rentokil Pest Control said on Wednesday.

Technical director Claus Schultz said the operation, which began last Wednesday, had been completed for all accessible nests. “We are actually finishing the ones we can reach today,” he said.

Twenty-eight nests remain untouched because they are located in difficult-to-access spots such as steep slopes where lifts cannot operate and dense vegetation where access is restricted.

Rentokil is now consulting with Copenhagen Municipality to determine the safest method for handling the remaining nests, which may include spraying in addition to removal.

The nests were found on about 130 trees on the common. No further nests have been identified.
