Police in Mikkeli seize 1.5 kg of suspected amphetamine in major drugs bust

Police in Mikkeli have seized 1.5 kilograms of suspected amphetamine, a quantity that investigators say could equate to as many as 15,000 doses, according to a report by Yle.

The drugs were recovered in the Peitsari district of Mikkeli earlier this month, following an earlier shooting incident in the same area. The case is being investigated as a serious narcotics offence.

On Tuesday, the South Savo District Court remanded a 21-year-old local man in custody on probable cause for the drugs offence. The same individual was previously detained on July 7 on probable cause for attempted murder in connection with the shooting, during which one person was seriously injured.

Investigators have not disclosed whether additional suspects are being sought in relation to the drugs case. Police say they are continuing to question witnesses, analyse the substance and determine its purity and quantity.
