Simon Flening of Børkop has begun a 600-kilometre skateboard journey from Skagen to Copenhagen, documenting the trip on Instagram. The route spans the length of Denmark, with the traveller posting updates daily.
Flening, who previously served as a patrol leader with the Sirius Patrol in Greenland, described the trip as a way to experience the country differently. “It’s about getting air, freedom and feeling the wind in your hair—travelling so you don’t overlook anything but see people, sunrises and enjoy yourself,” he said.
He has kept his wife and two daughters informed throughout the planning. His wife, Maiken, called the skateboard idea the “dumbest idea he’s had so far,” though she agreed to join him for the final stretch.
The journey has already tested Flening’s endurance. “Every three minutes I switch legs because my legs cramp up—it’s some of the hardest physical work I’ve done,” he said.
After reaching Børkop, roughly halfway, Flening reunited with his family, who will accompany him the rest of the way by bicycle.
