Police thank public for assistance during shooting in Nørresundby

Police in North Jutland have praised local residents for their quick response during a violent incident in Nørresundby on Friday, in which a 62-year-old man was killed and a police officer was wounded.

North Jutland Police said in a statement that several civilians stepped in to help despite the dangerous circumstances, including extinguishing a fire and providing first aid to the victim.

“We can see that many people in the area rushed to the scene as soon as they noticed the fire,” said Chief Superintendent Jesper Bøjgaard Madsen. “They wanted to help put out the flames and provide first aid to the victim. It was an impressive and selfless effort.”

Two civilians assisted the injured officer, ensuring he received medical attention. Police said they have not yet identified everyone involved but confirmed that many people contributed in various ways.

North Jutland Police said they are exploring ways to formally recognize the public’s assistance.

A 48-year-old man has been remanded in custody on charges of killing the 62-year-old victim and seriously wounding the police officer, who was shot in the leg. The suspect has admitted to the killing and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have not disclosed further details about the incident, including the suspect’s motive, citing respect for the parties involved and the victim’s family.
