SEV increased oil use by about 770 tons at Sundsverkinum

SEV, the Faroese national power company, reported a 6.5 percent rise in electricity demand in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period last year, driven by increased consumption. The company said green energy production grew by 10 percent over the same period, but the surge in demand forced SEV to burn roughly 770 tons more oil at its Sundsverkinum power plant.

Heri Mortensen, SEV’s production manager, confirmed the figures and attributed the higher oil usage to the elevated demand for electricity.
