Nurmijärvi head-on crash kills 12-year-old boy

A 12-year-old boy died in a head-on collision in Nurmijärvi on Monday afternoon, police confirmed. The crash occurred on Hangontie road.

The boy was a passenger in one of two cars involved. The other vehicle, which crossed into oncoming traffic, carried a driver and a passenger, both of whom were injured. Police suspect the second car veered onto the wrong side for reasons yet to be determined.

The investigation has been launched under charges of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, aggravated vehicular homicide, and three counts of causing bodily harm. The charges may change as the pre-trial investigation proceeds.

Intoxication is not currently suspected, though further testing during the investigation may provide clarity.

Police and the Accident Investigation Board continue to examine the crash.
