Denmark has secured its first medal at the Paris Olympics, and it is a silver. The Danish dressage team performed exceptionally well in the team final, surpassing their British rivals to claim the silver medal, while Germany took home the gold.

The Danish performance was highlighted by the last rider, who rode the horse Freestyle. Together, they achieved an impressive score of 235.669 points, placing Denmark temporarily in first position. Only one pair remained to compete: the German team featuring Olympic champion from Tokyo, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, and her horse TSF Dalera BB. Despite making a significant mistake during their routine, the German duo managed to score enough points to overtake Denmark, finishing just 0.121 points ahead.

The competition opened with Daniel Bachmann Andersen riding Vayro, who set a solid benchmark with a score of 75.973 percent, placing Denmark second after the first round. Nanna Skodborg Merrald then rode Zepter, achieving a score of 78.840 percent, the highest of the day at that point, and briefly putting Denmark in first place.

However, German dressage legend Isabelle Werth responded with a score of 79.853 percent, pushing Denmark back to second. The fate of the medal rested on Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour and Freestyle. Before her ride, British equestrian Charlotte Fry scored 79.483 points, putting pressure on Dufour to score at least 78.039 points to secure silver for Denmark. Dufour excelled, achieving a score of 81.216 points. Consequently, von Bredow-Werndl needed to score below 79.833 points to secure gold. Despite her earlier error, the German team finished with 79.954 points, clinching the gold medal.
