Massive fire engulfs homes in Drammen

DRAMMEN (Dagbladet) — A fast-moving fire has destroyed multiple homes in a residential area near Krokstadelva in Drammen, with authorities warning residents to stay away as crews struggle to contain the blaze.

Two firefighting helicopters are assisting ground crews battling the flames, which have spread across several attached houses. The fire broke out Friday afternoon and has since consumed at least one property completely.

Per Morten Røine said his sister was inside one of the homes when it ignited and was evacuated by firefighters. “She was shaking, she was in shock,” he told Dagbladet while watching the fire from a distance. “She’s worried about her cats—she didn’t have time to take anything.”

Another family living nearby said they saw thick smoke rising from their veranda and feared the fire would reach their home. “We hope it hasn’t spread this far,” one resident said. “It’s tragic. We know people who live here.”

At 5:56 p.m., operations leader Lise Bjørnsund said firefighters still had no control over the fire. “Residents and others must stay away from the area,” she said. “No injuries have been reported, but several residents are receiving medical attention.”

Firefighters continue to battle the blaze as it spreads into surrounding terrain.
