Faroese authorities have launched an initial survey to assess the scale of homelessness in the islands, though officials caution that the data will remain incomplete.
The survey, conducted by Hagstovan—the Faroese statistics office—aims to gather information on individuals who are temporarily housed in shelters, hospitals, or other provisional accommodations due to lack of permanent housing. According to Kári Holm Johannesen, director of Hagstovan, the effort will not provide a comprehensive count of homeless people in the Faroe Islands.
“The figures will give a partial picture of those using these services, but some homeless individuals may not be included in the survey,” Johannesen said.
The initiative follows reports of overcrowded shelters and high demand for emergency housing across the islands.
