General traffic will begin using the Dals tunnel on Saturday morning, marking the end of a years-long construction project that cost approximately 180 million Faroese krona.
Local residents in Dali welcomed the opening, calling it a historic day, but cautioned that the expected surge in through-traffic could disrupt village life. The 2.2-kilometre tunnel, 8 metres wide, connects the island’s north and south via a new road network built at public expense.
