Staffing agency Barona will lay off up to 81 temporary workers at the Škoda Transtech railcar factory in Kajaani, Yle reports.

Barona communications specialist Riikka Mantere confirmed the figure but stressed it represents a maximum. The company is actively seeking to redeploy affected staff to other clients.

Nearly 20 workers have already been placed in new roles, Mantere said. She expects the final number of redundancies to be significantly lower due to available positions with Barona’s broader client base.

Mantere noted strong demand for skills such as welding, edge bending, machining, and surface treatment, improving prospects for redeployment.

Škoda Transtech is concurrently in collective bargaining over potential cuts of up to 200 permanent staff.
