Eastern Norway’s scorching summer heatwave will end abruptly on Saturday as rain and thunderstorms sweep across the region, according to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

Meteorologist Haldis Berge told Dagbladet that Østlandet and Agder will see widespread rain and thunder, though local variations in intensity are expected. Residents are advised to prepare for heavy downpours.

Temperatures will drop significantly, settling in the low 20s Celsius rather than the recent highs near 30°C. The cooler conditions are expected to persist in the days ahead.

In Nesbyen, which nearly broke Norway’s all-time heat record of 35.6°C on Wednesday, rain may arrive as early as Friday afternoon. Further north, precipitation is likely to taper off by Saturday evening.

Western Norway will largely avoid the rain, with only inland areas seeing scattered showers. Northern Norway, however, will also face wet and windy conditions, with temperatures struggling to rise above 10–11°C.
