Wildfire in Oulu prompts residents to seal homes

A wildfire is burning on peatland in Oulu’s Sarvisuo area, covering roughly 250 square metres, with containment and extinguishing efforts underway, the North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department reported.

The fire, first reported at 13:55 on Thursday, may spread smoke to the nearby Hiukkavaara residential area, where homes are about 300 metres from the blaze. Residents in Kivikkokangas and Vaskikangas have been advised to close doors, windows, and ventilation systems.

Authorities estimate the operation will take several hours.
