Music in Lejet plans to expand events at Vejby Camping

The organizers of Musik i Lejet, which begins today at Vejby Camping in North Zealand, have proposed a vision plan to transform the site into a multi-event venue, potentially hosting up to 19 event days annually, reports DR.

The festival, running from July 16 to 18, has drawn criticism from local residents in Vejby and Vejby Strand, who fear increased noise and disruption. A petition, backed by the group “Nej Tak til Oplevelsescenter” (No Thanks to Experience Center), argues that the camping site should remain a traditional camping ground rather than evolve into a hub for large-scale events.

Pernille Tranberg, a summerhouse owner near the site and one of the petition’s initiators, warns that expanded activities could turn the area into a year-round experience center, disturbing residents with noise and crowds. She highlights that many year-round residents live close by and may face sleep disturbances.

Musik i Lejet’s organizers deny plans to create a high-noise experience center but acknowledge that more activity will bring more sound. Their vision includes modern amenities such as a clubhouse, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a café with craft beer and coffee roasting, a pizzeria, a bakery, and a bike shop. Proposed events range from concerts for up to 750 attendees to larger gatherings of up to 12,500 people.

Gribskov Municipality’s mayor, Trine Egetved (Conservative), acknowledges the concerns and states that no political decision has been made. A public dialogue meeting is scheduled for August 19 at Vejby Camping, after which the municipal council will address the issue. The petition has gathered over 450 signatures so far.
