Oulu police no longer suspect man arrested in spring cycling stabbing
Oulu police have dropped suspicion against a man arrested in April in connection with a stabbing targeting a cyclist, Helsingin Sanomat reports, citing police confirmation.
The 34-year-old man was detained on probable cause following a 14 April stabbing in the Raksila district. A district court later released him due to insufficient evidence, and police now confirm he is no longer a suspect in that incident.
The case is part of a series of attacks in Oulu over the past year in which a cyclist stabbed or assaulted five foreign nationals, four of them with knives. Police continue to investigate whether the attacks are linked or isolated, and whether they may constitute hate crimes.
No suspect has been arrested for the series. Police have released images and video of a man wanted in connection with the most recent cycling stabbing, which occurred on the last Friday in June.
