A man detained in connection with the hit-and-run death of Norwegian teenager Nikoline Høie (17) in Spain has been released without charge after surveillance footage cleared him of responsibility, Spanish newspaper SUR reports.

A court in Fuengirola ordered his release, with sources from Andalusia’s high court confirming no formal investigation or pretrial measures remain against him. Authorities continue searching for the vehicle and driver involved in the incident.

Høie, from Arendal, was struck and killed on the A7 motorway between Fuengirola and Marbella in the early hours of 6 July. She had been in Puerto Banús, watching Norway’s World Cup victory over Brazil, before disappearing from a friend. Her family last saw her at the Funky Buddha nightclub.

Emergency services were alerted at around 05:20 to a person hit by a vehicle, which did not stop. Police suspect a truck may have been involved. Høie was identified on 8 July, with her family’s consent.
