Danish campers are still allowed to barbecue despite heightened wildfire warnings, national broadcaster DR reports.

Emergency services may impose burning bans if conditions worsen, but none have done so yet.

At Vallø Camping in Køge, Tina Romme and her husband have brought their grill for the holiday. She said they always stay alert but are now taking extra care due to the dry, hot weather to avoid accidental fires.

Fellow camper Henning Jakobsen said grilling is essential to the camping experience and he is relieved it remains permitted. He adds a safety measure of his own: pouring a litre or two of water around the grill before lighting it.

According to the Danish Meteorological Institute, the hot weather is expected to ease by Friday.
