An explosion at the Nammo Vihtavuori factory in Laukaa, Central Finland, has killed one person, Yle reports.
Emergency services received the alert at approximately 10:50 AM. The blast occurred in a building under renovation, not currently in production use. According to Nammo Vihtavuori CEO Ilkka Heikkilä, the deceased was not a factory employee but a representative of a contractor involved in an investment project at the site.
The building was part of a two-component propellant factory, previously in long-term use, now under expansion. It had been scheduled to resume operations later this year. No other injuries have been reported.
Six rescue units and police are on scene investigating. Authorities state there is no ongoing explosion risk. The factory is currently on summer break, with production halted.
Nammo Vihtavuori produces explosives and pyrotechnics in Vihtavuori, Laukaa. Heikkilä noted that no fatal accidents have occurred at the plant in decades.
