Police investigate severe assault in Vaasa after corrosive liquid poured on child
Police in Vaasa are investigating a severe assault after a corrosive liquid was poured on an 8-year-old child on Sunday evening, Yle reports.
The incident occurred in the courtyard of Variska School in the Ristinummi district. Emergency services were alerted at 19:00. The child, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The liquid used was drain cleaner. Police detained one suspect shortly after the attack. A second suspect is under 15 years old.
On the following day, officers found two intact homemade bottle bombs on the school grounds. A patrol at the scene neutralised the devices.
Police warn that such homemade chemical bombs are highly dangerous. The acidic or alkaline liquids inside can cause severe burns if splashed, and exploding bottles may shatter into sharp fragments, risking injury.
Authorities urge parents to discuss the serious consequences of such experiments with their children.
