Faroese energy provider SEV consumed 770 tonnes more oil in the first half of 2026 than in the same period last year, despite a rise in renewable energy output, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Renewable energy accounted for 54% of SEV’s production in the first half of 2026, up from 52% in 2025. Overall electricity generation increased by 6.5%. Wind power was the largest renewable source, while solar energy saved SEV 50 tonnes of oil.

SEV attributed the higher oil use to strong demand and insufficient growth in green energy supply.
