Fire destroys poultry farm in Laitila, 20,000 chickens die
A fire destroyed a 4,000-square-metre poultry farm in Laitila on Monday, killing more than 20,000 chickens, according to the Southwest Finland Emergency Services.
Emergency response chief Olli Högmander said Monday evening that firefighting and clearance work had been completed, though crews would remain on site to monitor the area. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation will begin early Tuesday in cooperation with police.
Emergency services received an alert about the large building fire on Torikatu in Laitila Monday afternoon and dispatched 30 units to the scene. The blaze produced significant smoke but posed no risk to nearby residents, and no injuries were reported.
