Police and customs authorities in the Faroe Islands are seizing significantly more drugs, both weaker substances like hashish and stronger, life-threatening drugs, according to a report by Kringvarp Føroya.

Heri Andreasen, acting police inspector and head of the investigation department, said the increase applies to both sellers and users. A decade ago, seizures of hard drugs were relatively small compared to those of softer drugs such as hashish and marijuana.

The hashish market has not declined, even as more hard drugs are being sold. Authorities are now confiscating far larger quantities than before—last year saw a record haul. Drug prices in the Faroe Islands are also about ten times higher than in Denmark, which may explain the rise in discoveries.

Andreasen noted that those tempted to sell drugs are often ordinary people, lured by the substantial profits.
