Extreme wildfire risk across parts of Sweden
Nearly half of Sweden faces a high to extreme risk of wildfires in the coming days, with the most severe warnings in Bohuslän, Karlstad, and Blekinge, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) reported Sunday.
SMHI meteorologist Magnus Joelsson said dry, sunny conditions are expected to persist through the week, requiring caution across large areas. Local showers may temporarily ease the risk, but he urged the public to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as operating machinery, and to check for local burning bans.
Firefighting helicopters were already deployed Sunday to battle blazes near Hultsfred and south of Boxholm, each covering roughly two hectares.
