Storm brings hundreds of lightning strikes to southern Finland

A severe thunderstorm swept across southern Finland on Saturday evening, bringing heavy rainfall and widespread lightning, according to a report by Yle citing the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport recorded rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres in one hour at its peak. Finland saw approximately 650 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes on Saturday, most of them in the southern part of the country.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms also led to numerous emergency response tasks for rescue services.
