Summarfestival in Klaksvík now has the highest proportion of female artists among Faroese festivals, surpassing G!festival’s long-standing lead, according to a report by Kringvarp Føroya.
The festival, held under the slogan “Har hittini hittast” (Where everyone meets), has historically featured few women on its lineup. This year, however, organisers prioritised gender balance, said Erik Biskupstø, the festival’s director.
“Summarfestival should represent all of society, and that means both men and women. We kept this in mind when finalising the lineup,” Biskupstø told KVF.
G!festival has typically maintained a female representation of 30–35%, but Summarfestival overtook it last year and has done so again in 2026.
