Boater faces danger from exploding cartridges while camping on Laivonsaari in Kuopio

A boater faced an unexpected danger while lighting a campfire on Laivonsaari in Kuopio when hidden rifle cartridges exploded due to the heat of the fire. The incident occurred at the Nimismiehenkota campsite on July 31. When the boater lit the fire in the evening, approximately ten concealed cartridges began to detonate as the fire intensified.

Fortunately, the boater was at a safe distance when the cartridges exploded, but the situation could have been life-threatening, especially as they were alone at the site. The campsite features a large well ring, where several live cartridges were also discovered. These have been secured by the police.

Authorities from the Eastern Finland police are investigating the case as creating a danger through negligence or intent, which can endanger another person’s life or health. Such actions could result in fines or imprisonment for up to two years.
