The Kaustinen Folk Music Festival is experiencing stronger advance ticket sales this year, with the busiest days shifting to Friday and Saturday, according to festival director Valtteri Valo.
Previously, Thursday had been the top day for early sales, but organizers have adjusted the schedule to keep audiences on-site longer, including extending performances into the early hours. Saturday’s final act on the main stage, Antti Paalanen, will finish after 2:15 a.m.
The festival, running from July 13 to 19, will feature around 800 groups from 15 countries, with a record 6,000 musicians, singers, and dancers performing. Last year’s event drew over 54,000 visitors, and organizers aim to exceed that number this year.
Despite the growth, most attendees still traditionally buy tickets at the gate. The festival, now in its 59th year, remains financially stable after a 54,000-euro surplus last year, achieved through careful cost control. Organizers are maintaining a cautious approach to spending, anticipating potential uncertainty in future cultural funding.
