Teacher arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child in Uusimaa

A 42-year-old woman has been remanded in custody on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault against a child, Itä-Uusimaa District Court confirmed on Thursday.

The suspected offences occurred between 1 June 2024 and 2 July 2026, according to police. Prosecutors must file charges by mid-September.

Yle reports the woman worked as a primary school teacher in Uusimaa at least during the past academic year. The case was first reported by Iltasanomat.

Under Finnish law, sexual assault is classified as aggravated if it involves serious violence, causes particular mental or physical suffering, is committed in a particularly degrading manner, or targets a child under 18. The maximum penalty is six years in prison.
