Dalstunnel opens 18 July

The Dalstunnel will open to public traffic on 18 July at 14:00, following a ceremony at the tunnel entrance in Dalur, KVF reports.

Jacob Vestergaard, minister for labour and transport, and Húsavík mayor Anna Paulina Leo Olsen will deliver speeches, with music provided by the Havnar horn orchestra. After the ribbon is cut, the 2,219-metre tunnel will open in stages to traffic.

Landsverk and Húsavík municipality will offer refreshments in Dalur afterwards.

Before the ceremony, a run, walk, and cycling event through the new tunnel from Húsavík will be held at 13:20, organised by Bragdið and Tórshavn Cycling and Triathlon Association. A large parking area has been prepared in Dalur.
